Apprentice Shipwright at Thomas Boat Repair

Phredd Groves, MA, RPA, is an experienced apprentice shipwright and archaeologist, with a diverse background spanning excavation, surveying, and report writing in various locations including the Thames foreshore, London dockyard sites spanning the 16th to 19th centuries, as well as England, Iceland, and the American Southwest.

Education-wise, Phredd has studied Wooden Boat Building & Restoration at the IYRS School of Technology & Trades, MA in Landscape Archaeology at the University of Bristol, BA in History at Northwestern University, Certification in GIS at the University of West Florida, and additionally studied at Columbia University.

Phredd has been associated with several organizations, serving as an Apprentice Shipwright at Thomas Boat Repair and previously at RUTHERFORD'S BOAT SHOP, INC., as well as a Shipwright Intern at Mystic Seaport. Phredd has also contributed as a GIS Digitization Project Intern at the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission and held positions such as Archaeologist at various renowned institutions like Fornleifastofnun Íslands, Thames Discovery Programme, MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology), and many others. Furthermore, Phredd has strong technical expertise having worked in roles ranging from System Administrator at Columbia University to Service Technician at Graphtech Systems, LLC.

With such a rich tapestry of experience, Phredd Groves brings a unique blend of maritime craftsmanship and archaeological know-how to the table, making a remarkable contribution to the fields of shipwrighting and archaeology.
