Rachel Banfield is a highly educated individual with a diverse academic background. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Social Sciences from Monash University, a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law with Distinction from The University of Edinburgh, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Studies & French with Grade A from University of Auckland, and a Bachelor of Health Science in Public Health and Health Policy with Grade A from University of Auckland. Rachel also pursued a University Exchange program at Universit\u00e9 Jean Moulin (Lyon III).

Rachel has a wealth of experience working with various organizations. She served as a PhD Candidate at Monash University and held multiple roles at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), including Operations Manager in the Prevention of and Response to Sexual Violence in Central African Republic and South Sudan, Detention Team Leader in Afghanistan, Field Delegate, Policy Advisor, and Policy Attach\u00e9e in the Department of International Law and Policy. She also worked as a Research Tutor in Humanitarian Diplomacy at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Prior to her ICRC roles, Rachel worked at New Zealand Red Cross in advocacy, policy, and research capacities, as well as at Refugees As Survivors NZ (RASNZ), Amnesty International Aotearoa NZ, and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative in various research and internship roles.
