It was a fantastic personal achievement to pick up the Dennis Gabor medal from the Institute of Physics at an incredible event at Silverstone this week. Previous winners of the award include Tim Berners-Lee, Albert Michelson, J Fleming, Hans Geiger, and Reginal Victor Jones.

As a huge fan of Formula One there couldn't have been a more fun venue, I was whizzing around in the simulator while scenes were being filmed for the upcoming F1 film starring Brad Pitt outside on the track. The cars on display included the batmobile, which was accompanied by the dark knight himself. So for my grown up friends, there is a picture on my mantle piece of me receiving my award from the President of the IOP, and for my children's friends, there is a picture in their playroom of daddy getting a medal from Batman.

Fellows of the Royal Institute of Navigation will also notice a particularly good choice of tie on my part too...
