I’m 98% convinced the secret to creative work is to hold onto everything you know as an adult but also be five years old.

Today was ✨DAY ONE✨ in my new role as a Content Designer at Facebook! This possibility took me by surprise – in fact, I almost didn't respond to the recruiter at all because I had completely misunderstood what she meant by 'content design.' 😅 But now that I'm here it feels like the most natural next step in the world. Here's why....

I got to spend the last three years at InVision immersing myself in design maturity stories and conversations and principles, diving deep into other people's product teams (YOUR product teams), and learning what hurt and what helped. Before that, at Poll Everywhere, I got a personal four-year education in how digital products get built and how business decisions get made.

Now I get to roll all that learning together with my chronic need to explore new people and groups, ask questions, and play with language. I'm going to be inside a product team at one of the most mature product orgs on the planet, finding out firsthand how far the lessons I learned from all of you can go.

So. All that to say, this next adventure is really thanks to you. If you were one of those people...

  • People who invited me to take part in your team's biggest successes and trials and hard conversations
  • People who bravely volunteered to put your hard-won lessons on display for the world in webinars and printed stories and films
  • People who let me interrogate you and your friends for no other reason than the fact that you were doing amazing things I'd never heard of
  • People who collaborated with me on strange and unlikely projects just because it seemed like the most impactful thing we could do
  • People who showed me what vulnerable, human teamwork and leadership looks like
  • not to mention... People who kindly and metaphorically smacked me upside the head when I was being obtuse and got me pointed in a better direction...

Then THANK YOU. I hope to meet you again and many more like you.
