Regardt Ferreira

Regardt (Reggie) Ferreira, Ph.D., is the Director of the Tulane University's Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy and Associate Professor of Social Work with a strong focus on disaster resilience, mental health, and trauma research.

Dr. Ferreira holds a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Louisville, a master's degree in Disaster Risk Management, and an undergraduate degree in Social Work from the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

With over two decades of experience, Dr. Ferreira has spearheaded numerous projects in disaster risk reduction, collective trauma, and resilience, accumulating over $25 million in federal and foundation funding.

His extensive interdisciplinary work includes over 100 published articles, chapters, and abstracts on trauma and resilience topics, notably featured in reputable media outlets like CNN, Rolling Stone, and NPR.

Reggie's teaching excellence has been recognized with awards for his innovative methodologies in the classroom, reflecting his commitment to education and community engagement.

Originally from South Africa, Reggie now shares his expertise globally, conducting research and projects across Europe, Africa, North America, the Caribbean, and South Asia.

Throughout his career, he has held key roles in prestigious organizations and has contributed significantly to the field of disaster resilience, positioning himself as a prominent figure in academia and research.
