The lack of press access to Kamala Harris is beginning to crack the consciousness of the mainstream media. As much as they would like to help her, her unavailability to journalist questions is becoming too obvious to ignore. The response from the Harris camp is that she may make herself and her running mate available for a joint press briefing some time after Labor Day.
Frankly, that is a pretty amazing statement from a presidential campaign that already has had a late start. And from the Democrat Party in general since Kamala's unavailability only extends the unavailability of Joe Biden who also was stiffing the press.
Once again for the memory challenged, let's not forget that neither Joe Biden or Kamala Harris have ever made themselves generally available to the press. Both have tended to hand-pick who they would allow themselves to be interviewed by. Only friendly journalists permitted. And as we saw with Kamala's interview with NBC News Anchor, Lester Holt, if the questions got too pointed she would laughingly refuse to answer.
None of this, however, seems to be dampening enthusiasm for her among Democrat voters. And that seems to be the gold standard for how her campaign, like Biden's before it, will operate. If it isn't broke don't fix it. So, if Kamala can continue to duck the press. Duck hard questions about her flip flops and plans if she wins, why risk putting her out there.
We were supposed to be happy, we are told, that a doddering Joe Biden was replaced by a younger and more energetic candidate. But, looking at the way the Kamala campaign is unfolding, it seems like she is as fragile a candidate as Joe. She is being cushioned in cotton like a robin's egg. And this, as Donald Trump has said, is the person we are going to send out to deal with the likes of Putin and Xi?
Hello voters? If Kamala can't handle a debate where she might have to deal with Fox News moderators, what can we expect when she has to go nose to nose with some of the toughest, meanest, and orneriest dictators on the planet? We have seen Donald Trump walk into the lion's den over and over again. Yet, our corrupt and lying mainstream media are trying to portray him as "afraid" of Kamala Harris? How stupid do they think we are? At least for Democrats it seems "stupid enough."
For those of us old enough to remember when there were just three television channels reporting the news, Walter Cronkite was a someone you could trust. It turns out that he was a "liberal" but back in the 1960's when he was delivering the news you wouldn't have known what his politics were. You trusted him because he was not in the pocket of any political party or politician.
When in 1968 the North Vietnamese put on the Tet Offensive, Cronkite leveled with America and told them that the war was unwinnable. LBJ was quoted at the time as saying, "we lost Walter Cronkite." That was like LBJ saying "we lost the American people." And sure enough, LBJ threw in the towel on trying to run for re-election.
LBJ didn't call the FBI and tell them to ask Cronkite to reconsider. It may be hard to believe today, but Cronkite didn't answer to the White House. He didn't submit his news casts for prior review to the government. It was a time when "fact checking" was about "facts" not narratives.
Really too bad that our current generation have no concept of what honest reporting looks like. But, I remember.
