Robert Nerem

Director at Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience

Robert Nerem, with over thirty-five years of experience in bioengineering, has focused his research on problems in cardiovascular fluid dynamics and the influence of physical forces on anchorage-dependent mammalian cells.

He is the director of the Georgia Tech/Emory Center for the Engineering of Living Tissues (GTEC) and the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (IBB).

Nerem has held various prestigious positions in organizations such as the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and multiple international engineering and medical organizations.

His educational background includes a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from The Ohio State University, and a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
