Giving Up? How often do we find ourselves on the brink of giving up, convinced that our struggles are too immense and world too unfair? We're quick to blame external factors for our misfortunes. As adults, these moments of despair are all too familiar. Now, consider the added complexity of adolescence and gender, which often amplify these trials.

Last week, I found myself surrounded by young women whose stories sparked a new flame of determination within me.

Kulsooma, a young woman I met two years ago at the WeLive Center. We share a connection through our valley, a place still marred by conflict and pain—a story for another time. When we first met, she was a shy girl with the brightest smile, yet clearly terrified of the unknown. She had travelled from the far north to the south, venturing alone and unsupported. she was scared and uncertain, but immensely courageous. She didn’t even know how to use Google Maps, yet she took that brave step forward.

Fast forward to today, as I sat and listened to her speak with confidence and authority, I felt a surge of pride. She had transformed from a timid girl into a poised young woman, inching closer to her dream of self-reliance. Despite life and society constantly throwing obstacles in her way, she embraced every challenge and kept moving forward. giving up wasn’t just unthinkable—it wasn’t even on the radar.

She is completing her degree, living independently, and inspiring others with her story—not of her challenges, but of how hard work can bend fate in your favor. She is just one of many young women who age out of Childcare Institutions (CCIs) at 18, left to navigate the world without a safety net. These young women, full of wit and grit, simply need the chance to explore and excel.

I am immensely proud that, in addition to Kantar India Foundation's bridge program with WeLive Foundation , which facilitates the transition of these young women from CCIs to the real world, we have extended our support through our Girl Child Scholarship program with Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor. These initiatives are not just about easing transitions but about fostering independence. They reflect the remarkable strength of these young women as they shatter one glass ceiling after another.

Through these initiatives, aim is to provide the support and opportunities necessary for these young women to thrive. While giving up may seem like an option, stories like Kulsooma's remind us that perseverance and courage can lead to extraordinary transformations.

Contemplation (Sochta hoo..): Why do we accumulate? Is our outward accumulation merely a reflection of our inward desires, or does the mind recoil at the thought of emptiness? This isn't a call for answers but a gentle invitation to introspect. Our inclination towards accumulation may stem from tradition, culture, habit, or social conditioning etc. But amidst the flurry of gathering, have we paused to consider the alternative?

Anshu Gupta and Meenakshi Gupta operate their system on the fundamental principles of dignity, fostering a sense of ownership and self-worth among participants. Their innovative approach has not only revived the barter economy but also pioneered rental systems, anticipating future needs and emphasizing joy in receiving while promoting reusability at every step.

Goonj's model represents a shift from disjointed systems to an integrated one that benefits all stakeholders, including the planet.
