Abbasov has been involved in several significant projects, including the National Ecosystem Assessments of Azerbaijan .2 He has also contributed to projects related to the cleanup of obsolete pesticides, persistent organic pollutants, and DDT in various locations in Azerbaijan .5 He has also worked on projects to address lead pollution .4

Abbasov holds a Ph.D. in Hydrology from Baku State University .1 He was also a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Davis, where he researched hydro-climatic modeling of Caspian Sea level changes and flood management .1 He was also a visiting scholar at Michigan State University .1 He is fluent in Russian, Turkish, and English .1
