Ruben Maathuis (born in 1990) is a versatile and innovative composer, conductor, percussionist, educator, and producer known for his boundary-pushing mixes across various genres like house, techno, pop, classical, and jazz.

He commenced his journey in classical percussion by enrolling at the ArtEZ Conservatorium in Zwolle in 2009, culminating in the completion of a Bachelor of Music in 2013 and a Master of Music in 2015. During his academic tenure, he honed his skills in composing, which garnered recognition with awards like the 'ArtEZ composition contest' prize.

Ruben's compositions have been featured prominently, such as his work 'Flight of the Hubble' for a mixed ensemble of percussion and wind instruments performed at the 'ArtEZ International Brass Festival'. He continued to expand his repertoire with compositions like 'Use the Density of Space' for the Cadenza percussion ensemble from Twello, which premiered at the World Music Contest (WMC) 2017, leading Cadenza to victory.

In 2015, Ruben co-founded the trio 'Fusus', known for blending acoustic percussion with electronic elements like synthesizers, drum machines, and effects. Fusus not only creates and produces original tracks but also delivers electrifying live performances at popular venues such as music halls and festivals. The trio notably contributed to the success of the Kontra Album Live Tour featuring DJ/producer De Sluwe Vos, incorporating a powerful percussion ensemble to complement electronic music at major events like Paaspop, Pukkelpop, and prominent venues in the Netherlands.

Aside from his musical pursuits, Ruben Maathuis has also shared his knowledge and passion for percussion as a former percussion instructor at Stichting Tact Muziek, Cadenza Twello, and Stickhouse.
