Thank you National Post, Inc. for this feature and support. Loved the opportunity to shine a light on what matters to the work our amazing iProspect dentsu team in British Columbia are doing.
In a fragmented media landscape where consumers can choose from endless content options in several media formats and often carry out second screen activities while watching content, impressions, views, and frequency are becoming increasingly obsolete metrics in capturing the effectiveness of an ad or a piece of content.
This is why dentsu launched The Global Attention Economy project in 2018, to better understand the relative value of advertising across formats, platforms, devices as well as the ability to capture and sustain audiences’ attention through types of imagery and what external factors may influence overall ability to gain attention.
What came out loud and clear from the study is that attention is a form of generosity from individuals and needs to be valued by marketers. Attention and awareness are not the same thing. Brains are built to suppress non-critical information to react to what is highly important to us.
What is attention and what is it not? The goldfish is not real! Building on those findings, this white paper showcases the findings of a new Attention Economy study we carried out in Canada, which is more focused on the consumers’ mindset and ability to place attention upon content in specific individual and societal conditions, to provide to marketers a series of recommendations on how they may want to reframe their ads and messaging to better command consumers’ attention.
