Okay, folks, brace yourselves because I'm about to drop a truth bomb that might ruffle some feathers. 😡😡😡

So, picture this: corporates with policies to support working moms. Sounds great, right? But here's the catch: they might unintentionally be reinforcing gender stereotypes.

Hear me out.

Parenting isn't just a woman's gig. Dads play a crucial role too!

Yet, in India, it's like finding a unicorn to stumble upon a company with an Equal Parenting Policy.

Let's unpack the unintended consequences when all those well-intentioned policies and support systems are solely directed at women:

⚠ Moms get extended maternity leaves while dads return to work, often within a month. ⚠ Moms enjoy flexible work arrangements while dads are expected to be physically present. ⚠ Expecting and new moms receive parenting support and workshops while expecting and new dads carry on with business as usual. ⚠ Nursing rooms for moms, but dads aren't expected to bring the baby to work and feed.

You know what happens as a result? I am sure you do, but let me break it down anyway.

Women get left behind in the professional realm. While dads focus on their jobs, moms take leaves, juggle flexible schedules, attend parenting workshops, and feed their little ones as needed.

Naturally, this leads to them contributing less than 100% at work, missing out on growth opportunities, and getting the short end of the stick despite their employer's noble intentions.

The employer may even win awards for being "inclusive for working moms." And yet, it could only be making things worse for working mums.

Enter Tllid | Empowering working parents who recently collaborated with a young startup to enhance their parenting policies and embrace equal parenting.

Here's what they did differently: ✅ New dads now enjoy a whopping 26 weeks of paid paternity leave, just like new moms. ✅ All employees, parents included, can take advantage of flexible work arrangements. ✅ Expecting dads are encouraged to attend parenting workshops. Talk about breaking stereotypes! ✅ They even created a designated space for dads to bottle-feed their babies. It's about time!

But wait, there's more!

These policies aren't limited to biological parents only. Adoptive parents, same-sex parents, single parents, and anyone acting as a guardian to children due to personal circumstances also benefit.

I'm curious, folks.

Are there any HR leaders in the big corporates out there with the courage to give this a shot?

If you know someone or you're itching to learn more, hit me up!

Let's kick those gender stereotypes to the curb and rally for equal parenting. Are you with me?

PS: In this picture you see me taking a break with Azad, allowing some much-needed time off for Sai. The important question is, was she productive during this time, or did she just doze off? 🤣
