I had the honor of taking the stage at The Westport Library where some of my heroes (Doris Kearns Goodwin and Billie Jean King, to name just two) have spoken or will do so soon. Thank you Steve Parrish and William Harmer for inviting me to share my advice on how to live in a highly polarized world. Like the tenets of “Breaking Through,” these concepts sound simple; I assure you, they are not. But seeking harmony will make all the difference.

I encourage all of us to:

  1. Find common ground with those who may hold a different world view.
  2. Be mindful of language, avoiding coarse speech.
  3. Fight the viral disinformation that’s everyone’s enemy.
  4. Seek out what makes you hopeful.
