Domestic Tourism: visit to J&K, first to Kashmir
Domestic tourism contributes to local area development, informal sectors and MSMEs growth.
My parents financed the family trip😊. A close relative family extended generous support and spent precious quality time.
From Delhi it takes over 12 hours to reach Udhampur by car and would likely take 8 hours once ongoing road works get completed, same as Vande Bharat train. Udhampur to Sri Nagar travel time has reduced drastically, from 12 hours to 7 hours by car since 2016, thanks to reduced distance by tunnels; two are nearly 9km long, and good roads.
We took breaks every three hours of driving for refreshments.
IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu and AIIMS Jammu show their prominent presence on the way.
Prominent places include Patnitop hill station and Mansar lake in Udhampur; Swamy Sankaracharaya temple, Lal Chowk, Dal lake and Char Chinar, Shalimar and Nishat Garden in Sri Nagar, Shiva temple and snowcapped mountains at Gulmarg, snow zero point at Sonmarg and Kaman Aman Setu bridge at Uri.
We loved travel and nature i.e. green trees, flowing rivers, mountains, fresh air, animals, flying birds, early rising sun, moon and a good landscape; and enjoyed vegetarian foods.
Overall, traveled a distance of over 2500 km. There were rains but in nights mainly. Except a minor accident, a scooter hitting our stationary car, the entire trip went off well.
While we were away, a neighbour friend watered our plants/pots in this sweltering heat😊
