Highlights
Trying to build a landing page that converts? 🚀
After a decade of building 300 client LPs here’s what I’ve learned. These apply to both B2B and D2C – remember, at the end of the day, you’re convincing a human to take action!
1️⃣ There's No Such Thing as a Landing Page MVP 🎯 It’s 2023. Prospects expect LPs to be beautiful, clear, and functional. If yours can’t stand up to competitors (even those much better capitalized) you will lose. Your LP isn't a marketing tool—it's a direct reflection of your brand and product quality.
2️⃣ Four Cs of CTAs: Clear, Compelling, Consistent, Conspicuous 👆What is your landing page KPI? If it’s a trial start then that CTA must be: —Clear and compelling: “Try for free” —Consistent: same CTAs across the page —Conspicuous: use CTAs liberally (sticky nav CTAs minimize friction)
3️⃣ Eliminate "Marketing Speak": Focus on Core Benefits and Use Real Numbers 📈 Avoid flimsy "marketing speak," especially in your hero. Highlight the core reasons customers are interested in you: e.g. saving money, making money, and saving time. Use real numbers: "BrandCo customers make 20% more revenue each month" > "BrandCo helps you make more money."
4️⃣ Include Social Proof 🗣 Add testimonials, press/customer reviews, case studies, and survey data to a) build trust, and b) minimize the independent research your prospect needs to take. Third party ratings and big logo testimonials hold the most weight.
5️⃣ Optimize for Mobile Devices 📲 Yes, even for B2B. Decision makers may do their initial research on desktop, but they will eventually interact with your mobile site. Nothing kills credibility like an experience that is broken, poorly formatted, or slow loading.
6️⃣ Make Referrer and Landing Page Consistent 🔃 Your visitors may arrive through a search ad, LinkedIn ad, or organic result, so tailor your message from click to page. If your ad promises an offer, clearly deliver on that promise. If your prospects often search for “BrandCo vs. CompetitorCo.”, build a comparison table that illustrates your strengths.
7️⃣ References are your friend 📚 LP optimization is about iteration, not innovation. Research highly capitalized leaders in your industry – chances are they’ve done a whole lot of testing to get it right. Links to 5 B2B LPs doing it right in the comments!
