Throughout his career, Saumitra has held significant roles in various organizations. He was the CEO & Founder of Borde and served as the Vice President Product Management for the Hortonworks Data Platform at Cloudera. Previously, he held roles such as Head of Product Management, Technical Marketing, Program Management, and Technical Publication at Skyera (acquired by Western Digital), Director of Product Management at EMC's BRS Division, Senior Product Line Manager at Brocade, and Engineering Team Lead at Brocade.

Interesting perspective from Yann LeCun. My first exposure to Deep Learning and NVIDIA was back in 2017/2018- we were doing a 1/10 scale, self-driving toy car demo for a keynote presentation, demonstrating the power of Hortonworks Data Platform 3.0 with my smart colleagues- Wangda Tan and Vinod Kumar Vavilapalli. We trained for a month but the lighting conditions in the San Jose Convention Center key note venue were different and we ended up using some rule based techniques using the LiDAR to complement our toy AI model.
Fast forward to 2024, at Borde, we're now involved in ultra high-volume deep learning to inspect million objects a minute- solving real problems in critical areas such as food, pharmaceuticals, recyling etc. At Borde, I was almost walked out of our first few customer meetings when I talked Deep Learning, Containers, GPUs. instead, our customers want to see business outcome such as avoid recalls, handle labor shortages and that essentially forced us to make our AI work in the demanding production enviroments and in fact, make it invisible so that this runs 24x7 with zero human intervention. Customer outcome has been our northstar with technology as a means to end.
We focused on one branch of AI- Deep Learning Computer Vision. LLM is another branch. There will be more in future. We saw startups do X for SAN in early 2000; Y for Big Data in 2010s; and now, Z for LLM- there will be something else in next few years. I just hope, we get to see more of Z for LLM to achieve "ABC" for customers : -).
