Shana DeVlieger

Shana DeVlieger is a PhD Candidate, IES-PIRT Fellow, Adjunct Professor, and Teacher Residency Field Mentor at NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Human Development, and Education.1 She is a former public elementary school teacher who has transitioned into applied research, focusing on advancing equity in early childhood caregiving.1

DeVlieger's research and teaching broadly consider two main areas:

  1. How to prepare diverse, equitable, and effective early childhood caregivers from the outset
  2. How to better sustain diverse caregivers' wellness and positive relationships with children over the long-term1

In addition to her roles at NYU Steinhardt, DeVlieger also consults as a researcher on educational equity and perinatal mental health-focused projects at various institutions, including NYU Metro Center for Educational Transformation, Nested Institute, Cooper, and the Center for Trauma Responsive Practice Change.1

Previously, she worked in research roles focused on early childhood educator development and wellness at NYU Grossman School of Medicine Center for Early Childhood Health and Development, the University of Pittsburgh School of Education's Office of Child Development, and the Harvard Center on the Developing Child.1

DeVlieger holds the credentials MAT and EdM, and has been listed as a Research Coordinator at the Center for Early Childhood Health & Development at NYU.2
