Have digital credentials transformed the talent marketplace?

The global momentum around microcredentials has provided more flexible and inclusive options for learners around the world. These credentials can also transform our talent marketplace, giving visibility to jobseekers who are traditionally and systematically excluded from the job market through traditional talent practices and HR systems.

Our survey of more than 2000 jobseekers provides a snapshot of how digital credentials and wallets are viewed and used during the job search process. We note three major opportunities for the work ahead:

  1. Supporting employers in using digital credentials to transition and scale skills-based talent practices;
  2. Using digital credentials and wallets to give jobseekers, especially those without degrees, the opportunity to communicate their qualifications; and
  3. Developing a variety of open standards-based tools that enable the seamless use of digital credentials within a variety of business workflows.

I’m looking forward joining Holly Garner, David Leaser, and Maise Hunns FCMI to talk about the role that credentials play in the future of skill-based hiring and what job seekers, employers, and training & education program leaders can do to make it a reality.
