Revolutionising The Fintech Industry: The Monzo Way. Fernando Fanton, CPO, Monzo Bank
- What makes Monzo special? Monzo thinks and starts from first principles. The product roadmap is determined by customer pain points and needs and never on what the competitors are doing. Monzo builds along with users. Focus is on “How do the customers feel when they use the product.”
- Communication with customers through multiple channels: social media, customer service ticket. All meetings start with customer learning rather than a business outcome.
- Connect and understand what are the community’s needs, desires, and goals. Instead of building complicated financial products, build simple products for the larger community.
Product #1: Investments
- Pain point: Not enough money → Feature: Invest as little as £1.
- Pain point: Didn’t understand investments → Feature: Educate and create awareness.
- Pain point: Keep forgetting to invest → Feature: Round up when spending and forget.
Product #2: Home Ownership:
- Pain point: Difficult to keep up with mortgage details → Feature: Show when end date, LTV, mortgage rate, etc.
- Pain point: Looking at the mortgage balance is depressing → Feature: Home equity value.
Product #3: In-app call status: This innovation is a result of an internal Hackathon.
- Pain point: I get a lot of fraud calls → Feature: Show if Monzo customer service is on the call with the user.
Absolutely love the way Monzo Bank builds products.
Synergy in Leadership and Product Excellence: A Blueprint for Growth. Jessica Hall, CPO, Just Eat Takeaway.com
- Leadership is not about a job title but about attitude and skill. We spend so much time at work, might as well make it great. The more senior you get, next steps become less clear. Think less about job titles and more about skills, likes, and capabilities.
- Don't worry about a linear career. Make sideways moves. It can be a springboard that catapults you forward.
- Talk about your career, your personal goals, and ambitions. Else assumptions will be made for you (albeit with good intentions) that may propel you in a direction you may not want to take.
- Find your why. What is your passion? What drives you forward? Do more of what you love and less of the things that drain your energy.
