Are you among the millions counting down to the weekend? It's understandable, but what if I told you there's a way to find joy in every day, not just Saturday and Sunday?
As we approach the long Labor Day weekend here in the US, many of us have already mentally checked out.
And who can blame us? Without the right mindset, it might feel like checking out is the only option. When you’re dedicating your life to building someone else’s dream, it’s easy to feel drained and disconnected from your own goals and passions.
I’ve been there. When I started down the entrepreneur path, I worked in various jobs to keep the lights on. Throughout those experiences, sometimes I merely survived the weekdays, living for the weekends.
But then, a single realization changed everything.
No, it wasn't about believing in myself. In fact, I had to accept my averageness before I could break free.
It wasn't about following my passion either. Truth be told, I wasn't particularly skilled at what I loved most.
So what was this game-changing realization? It's surprisingly simple: I needed to become exceptionally good at something the world values.
Here's the truth: People pay for solutions. If you want to succeed, solve a problem. But to solve a problem, you must first master it.
You need to acquire the necessary skills.
Here is how I frame it: If I invested time and energy into developing a skill that the world values, I would inevitably improve. And if I became truly exceptional at it, I could take control of my destiny/outcomes.
This Labor Day, as you enjoy your well-deserved break, consider this: What skill could you master that would make you look forward to Mondays, not just the weekends?
Remember, the only people who dread weekdays are those who haven't yet become valuable enough to get paid for doing what they love.
Loving what you do is the easy part. Developing the skills? That's where the real challenge - and opportunity - lies.
The traditional path (or so were told):
- Pursue a college degree. (Go into debt.)
- Climb the corporate ladder. (Building someone else's dream?)
- Save for a house. (In this market?)
- Aim for a comfortable retirement. (Fingers crossed!)
The emerging path:
- Self-educate debt-free. (YouTube University, anyone?)
- Launch your venture alongside your day job. (Until your business takes off.)
- Rethink housing and location. (Embrace geo-arbitrage and tax benefits.)
- Invest wisely and live below your means.
The entrepreneurial path has never been more exciting.
