Highlights
100 Years of Innovation in Hamburg and Shaping the Future of Semiconductor Tech From manufacturing Valvo radio tubes by hand to producing 3,000 components a second accounting for 25 percent of the global production of small-signal semiconductors, it’s humbling to look back and celebrate 100 years of Nexperia history in Hamburg. It was an honor to celebrate this milestone alongside Hamburg's Senator for Economic Affairs, Dr. Melanie Leonhard, and everyone at Nexperia, but now it’s time to look ahead… Nexperia is thrilled to announce a $200 million investment in our Hamburg Fab to expand the production of our standard diodes and transistors made of silicon while creating production lines for the next generation of WBG chips made of SiC and GaN over the next two years. This investment solidifies Hamburg's position as a key European hub for innovation and signals our intention to propel Nexperia to the forefront of next-generation semiconductor technology set to meet the growing demand for energy efficiency while reducing our ecological footprint. A special thank you to the valued colleagues, partners, and friends, past, present and future, of #TeamNexperia. None of this would be possible without your support. The road ahead will be filled with challenges, but there’s no doubt we will overcome anything thrown our way, together.
To stand a chance at competing globally, we need the power of all European chipmakers. Nexperia is the last manufacturer remaining in Europe to manufacture and invest in mature semiconductors needed in every electronic design. I recently had the pleasure to join my colleague and COO Achim Kempe for a discussion with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung covering how our chips power virtually every electronic design in the world, our Dutch roots and 100-year history in Hamburg. We’re a strong European asset, expanding and driving innovation. We're investing in silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) development, a technology crucial for a greener future. We need a more pragmatic approach. Nexperia will contribute to ensure Europe remains competitive in the global chip race. Read the full article (in German) - https://lnkd.in/eY9g_FY7
