Susan Dobkins is an experienced philanthropic and non-profit leader who currently serves as the Co Director at Broetje Family Trust and Director of Vista Hermosa Foundation.124 She joined Vista Hermosa Foundation in 2020 as Programs Director, supporting the programs team in coordinating domestic and international grantmaking and the First Fruits Scholars program.1
Prior to her current role, Dobkins worked as a program officer at The Russell Family Foundation in Gig Harbor, WA for 11 years. There, she managed a diverse portfolio including local grassroots leadership development, youth homelessness initiatives, scholarships for underserved students, and projects at the intersection of leadership development and environmental justice.13
Dobkins has extensive experience in community organizing, having worked for over 20 years in various roles including as a social justice director of a local church, supporting immigrant farm workers, and documenting human rights abuses in Nicaragua in the 1980s.3 She has also been involved with regional and national philanthropy through service on committees for organizations such as Grassroots Grantmakers and the Self Development of Peoples Fund of the Presbyterian Church USA.1
Originally from Oklahoma, Dobkins attended university in San Antonio, TX, and later worked as a Mission Intern with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. She spent 12 years organizing farmworkers and leading family immigration services in Oregon's Willamette Valley before moving to Tacoma in 2002.1
In her personal life, Dobkins is an avid bicyclist and boater. She has a daughter named Clara and two rescue dogs, Roxie and Flynn.1
