I found myself in my early twenties passionate about mental health. As time went by, and I began to work in mental health care I discovered that I was hesitant to pursue traditional roles like therapist or counselor.
After years of sitting in therapy every week, multiple group therapy groups, and meeting with psychiatrists, I found that taking in other people's stressors, trauma's, and anxieties about life would negatively impact my health.
I found myself at a crossroads. It's been quite a journey! #health #wellbeing #mentalhealth #job #experience
One of the best moments I have in this world is meeting people that randomly share they experience being an adoptee, been in foster care, are a woman of color, or experience bipolar disorder.
There is something sooooo beautiful talking to someone knowing I do not see their battle scars, their struggles, and maybe the times where they questioned life.
Equally beautiful is the emotion that both me and the other person(s) share despite us being strangers.
Suddenly I have bonded with a person that may understand part of me (like my experiences with mental health) than a person that has known me my whole life.
Far too often do humans go along in life not hearing other people’s journeys, how their journey has impacted them.
This is a form of world peace and resilience that is often not seen in daily life. #health #world #mentalhealth #people #adoption #bipolar
