Dear friends, I had the great pleasure of spending the latter part of last week at #AgriConnections 2024 - Pakistan’s premier agricultural conference, which was put on (& really well organized) by the Pakistan Agricultural Coalition.
On Wednesday night, we had a soft launch for the Pakistan Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture (PARA) - an organization being crafted to help small & medium holder farmers (80+ % of 🇵🇰 farmers) create more biologically driven, profitable, higher yielding and ecologically beneficial agricultural systems.
On Thursday, it was a treat to be on stage presenting the case for regenerative agriculture with my new friend Sam Knowlton (who’d made the long trip all the way from New Mexico 🇺🇸, and for which we’re very grateful 🙏🏼). This was the first time in Pakistan’s history with a panel discussion on regen ag at a mainstream conference.
In a short amount of time on stage, I squeezed in the following:
1️⃣ Rising Climateflation 🔥 🌍 🌊🤑🏷 💹
2️⃣ The 6th Mass Extinction 🐞 🦠🐦 ☣️☠️🧪
3️⃣ 💲Ch’ching ch’ching💲: Hedgerow Economics (🌳 = 💰) —> How trees & shrubs can enhance profits, increase yields, protect soils & crops from weather events, store boat loads of carbon, supercharge biodiversity & provide ingredients to make composts & fertilizers
4️⃣ Nutrient Density 🍅 🌽 🥕 🥦 🍚 🍎 🥘
5️⃣ Enhancing Yields 🌱 🌾 🌳 🌱 📶
6️⃣ Soil Carbon = Water Holding Capacity 💧(27,000 gallons stored per 1% SOC per acre)
7️⃣ The Bunny Fence “Experiment” 🐰 in 🇦🇺 and The Small Water Cycle 💦 ☁️ ♻️ (More green biomass covering ground = more rainfall 🌧)
8️⃣ Drawdown Farm’s pioneering work in integrative regenerative agriculture over the past 8 years 🌳🐄🌱🐑 🚜 🌾 🐐 👨🌾 🌶
There’s so much more to do انشاءالله, and building out PARA into an effective organization is going to be a most arduous task. I could certainly use all your good vibes and prayers 🙏🏼. Looking forward to updating you on this journey as we plough on (pun intended, as the work actually involves limiting/eliminating ploughing 😉)!
