Highlights
The moment I got an anxiety attack and a trophy.
I want to share with you an experience that shaped both my startup and me and made me realize new things about myself.
Towards the end of 2019, my wife (then fiancée) and I planned to fly to Paris for our first vacation as a couple. We'd been waiting for it for a long time, and here it was about to happen.
Around the same time, one of our world-renowned clients was planning a huge pre-launch event. It was a big deal – as a founder of a small company, I was honored and pleased to receive such a show of trust from a large global organization.
But as you learned from my last post, for me, big deals come in pairs. And then I must deal with what I wished for.
The entire pre-launch event depended on work that only I could do after receiving materials from the client. And naturally, the materials didn't arrive a week before my flight to Paris, as I had planned, but only the night before. I had to cram a week's worth of work into one night, at the end of which my wife and I had to catch a flight to Paris.
So there I was, working in my apartment while my wife was asleep next to me. The alarm was set, and a taxi had been booked to take us to the airport. 6 hours to go.
Two hours later, I realized that I had made a big mistake and had to start all over.
What was I going to do? I could feel my pulse rising and cold sweat on my forehead. In hindsight, I realized I had experienced an anxiety attack.
One of the things I've learned from founding a startup is that you have to think quickly and believe in your abilities – you have to be confident that you'll find your way out of situations, even ones you've never encountered before.
What did I end up doing? First, I turned off my wife's alarm clock. The last thing I wanted was for her to wake up and realize I wasn't close to being done. I then moved the cab reservation back an hour. I had to believe that we’d still get to the airport in time.
I sat back at my desk to complete my task. With my heart beating fast, I managed to finish just as my wife woke up. She asked, "Oh, why didn't we get up earlier?" I replied, "Who was asleep anyway?"
After an exhausting night, during which I repeatedly told myself that I would succeed, I succeeded. While we were on the plane to Paris, the client woke up and received everything he needed to prepare for the event.
I returned from Paris directly to the event. I was called on stage by surprise. The CHRO gave me a trophy and told the hundreds of board members in the audience, "it's known that service is our guiding principle, but Eloops and Tal taught us what service really is."
Pride, relief, and what an amazing time I had with my wife in Paris!
Sometimes I find that I have no choice at all. It all suddenly depends on me. And it's stressful but also constructive. No one promised that the road would be exactly the way we planned, and the truth is, it never is.

Sometimes things you've been waiting for a long time happen all at once, and then you have to deal with what you wished for. That is what happened to me only recently when my first son 👶🏼 was born the same week my startup received seed round funding to take the company to new heights 🚀
Which is more important? The birth of my son - there's no question about that! And yet, it's time to give a big push and help the company flourish as we planned. So, as we say, the CHALLENGE WAS ACCEPTED and I’m now rearing a startup and a baby at the same time.
One thing I noticed is that I’m counting my son’s age in quarters. So, here’s a photo of us in his Q1. P.S At least one advantage I've discovered so far:
- I'm available at all times in all time zones around the world! 🤪
I will continue to post updates about my babies between feeding my son and launching a new feature. Stay tuned!
