I spend a lot of time explaining and talking about what will change in the real estate market
[Personal Sharing]
But the truth is that I spend much more time thinking about what won't change.
I learned from Jeff Bezos in one of his simple interviews that Amazon customers will always(!) want low-priced, fast-delivered products.
'What's going to change in the next 10 years?' And that is a very interesting question; it's a very common one. I almost never get the question: 'What's not going to change in the next 10 years?'
It's impossible to imagine a future 10 years from now where a customer comes up and says:
'Jeff I love Amazon; I just wish the prices were a little higher,'
[or] 'I love Amazon; I just wish you'd deliver a little more slowly.'
Imposible.
What a fantastic mental model to invoke, especially in an industry like real estate considering the current state of play.
So, what will not change in real estate in the next 10 years?
- The Human Element
Real estate transactions often involve personal and emotional factors that technology cannot fully replace. We believe that the real estate mediation service will evolve for something similar to a strategic and financial real estate consultancy.
- House Affordability
Despite rising housing costs, the desire for homeownership remains a global aspiration. People will continue to seek affordable, quality housing options.
- The Importance of Location
The value of real estate remains heavily influenced by location. With 70% of the global population expected to reside in urban centres by 2050(source United Nations), this factor becomes increasingly significant.
- More Automation
The transaction process is often lengthy and complex, involving multiple parties and extensive paperwork. To streamline this process, individuals and businesses need to adopt more advanced technologies and learn how to use them effectively. This will enable faster, secure and more transparent transactions.
- More Security (legal and technological)
Property ownership and transactions require a secure and reliable framework, which technology can enhance but not eliminate. While technology can streamline processes, the core regulatory framework governing real estate transactions is likely to remain in place.
- More Liquidity
Despite the fact that 93% of the global population is currently excluded from real estate investment(source Massachusetts Institute of Technology), this demand is only set to grow. People increasingly desire control over their financial future and the ability to pursue their dreams. —— In the real estate industry, success hinges on delivering results and fulfilling client needs quickly and effectively.
My name is Tiago Dias, founder of Unlockit, on a mission to transforma real estate transaction with Blockchain and Open Information.
What do you believe will remain constant in the real estate industry over the next decade?
