Iconic Baseball Moments “The impossible has happened”, said the great Vince Scully. And he was right. Bottom of the 9th inning. One on. Two out. Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. Athletics up 4-3, with arguably the second best closer in baseball history on the mound for the Athletics, Dennis Eckersley. And up comes Kirk Gibson. He couldn’t start the game because he had a strained left hamstring and a swollen right knee. In other words, there was NO way he could hit a baseball with any force. He couldn’t push off with his back foot, and he couldn’t land on his front foot. Anyone who knows anything about hitting knows the power comes from the legs. But. . . . we watch the games, because humans sometimes do impossible things. Listen to the call from Vince Scully. It is long-ish, but it is worth it: https://lnkd.in/e4uvHxY As the great Yankees announcer of the 50’s and 60’s, Mel Allen, used to say when something special happened: “How about that?” So, what are your most memorable baseball moments? Let us know. It will be fun to hear, since I imagine y’all will tickle quite a number of memories. Here’s my top 5 (colored, as yours may be, by being a fan of a particular team): ·      Wade Boggs on horseback with an NYPD officer, riding around the Stadium field in celebration of the Yankees’ 1996 WS victory in Game 6 (I was there); ·      Bucky *(&^ig Dent): 1978 Yankees win over the Red Sox in one game playoff, one of the greatest games ever played; ·      Bernie goes Boom!: Bernie Williams hits a Game 1 walk off homer to beat the Orioles in the 1996 ALCS (I was there); ·      President Bush throws out the first pitch in the 2001 World Series, an emotional moment for everyone there (I was there. It took 3 hours to get through the security checks that night); ·      Carlton Fisk waves the ball fair at Fenway Park as he hits a home run that lifts the Red Sox to a win in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series.
