Tom Barker is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia and a co-founder of Vasarya Therapeutics, where he serves as President and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO).1 With over 20 years of research experience dating back to 1997, Barker is an expert in hemostasis, fibrin polymerization, fibroblast biology, and extracellular matrix biology.1
Barker co-founded Vasarya Therapeutics in October 2022. Prior to his current roles, Barker held academic positions at the Georgia Institute of Technology as an Assistant and then Associate Professor from 2006 to 2016.1 He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at The Hope Heart Institute and worked as a Senior Scientist at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.1
Barker received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his B.S. in Chemistry from Oglethorpe University.1 His research focuses on tissue repair, remodeling, regeneration, and the study of pathological scarring and fibrosis.1
