Toto Kisaku is a prominent Congolese playwright, actor, director, and producer, known for his impactful contributions to the theater. He studied drama at the National Institute of Arts in Kinshasa, which laid the foundation for his artistic career. In 2003, he established K-Mu Théâtre, where he has served as Directeur Artistique, focusing on innovative theatrical expressions that reflect the social and political realities of his home country and beyond.12

After seeking political asylum in the United States in 2015, Kisaku has continued to develop his work, exploring themes of poverty and oppression through art. His notable productions include Requiem For An Electric Chair, which premiered at the 2018 International Festival of Arts & Ideas and has toured various locations across the U.S..12 He is also recognized for his recent play 7 Dialogues and is currently working on a new piece titled Six Feet Under the Loser.1

Kisaku's work not only showcases his artistic talent but also serves as a platform for dialogue about critical social issues. He has received several accolades, including the 2010 Freedom to Create Prize and the 2018 Rebecca Blunk Fund Award from the New England Foundation for the Arts.12 Through his role at K-Mu Théâtre and his ongoing projects, Kisaku continues to influence the theater landscape both in the U.S. and internationally.
