Performing at a high level is hard, especially when our minds turn against us.

It is crazy how many high performing people are managing anxiety or depression alongside their day to day work.

Here are some thoughts that I share when turn to me for advise:

Remember the basics -

  1. Give yourself 8 hours of sleep opportunity.
  2. Move the body daily for at least 30 mins, the more vigorous the better.
  3. Eat unprocessed, sugar free foods. Protein in the morning is particularly helpful.
  4. Stay social.

Then there are a few other things that seem helpful -

  1. Journaling - Morning pages is a good way to get the thoughts out of your mind.

  2. Mindfulness - anxiety and depression tend to focus inward. The ego says "I am not good enough", "I am going to fail", "I ...", "I....". A mindfulness practice moves the thoughts outward which is better.

  3. Breath work. The mind and the body are the same thing. Breath work is a way of using the body to manage the mind. Talk to Kym Burls about this. Or Google the Physiological Sigh.

Remember that feelings are for feeling and you are not alone.

If it is getting too much, your GP can help. Also Beyond Blue: https://lnkd.in/g8wDEkHU

Good luck out there, it is a crazy, wonderful, tragic, beautiful, chaotic, amazing world.

Who are you going to be in 10 years? Where will you be in 10 years?

Is your business thriving?
Are you fit and strong?
Is your weight the same as it is now or are you a bit bigger or smaller?
Do your kids like you and want to spend time with you? Are you married (still? or yet? 😏 ). Are you wealthy (still? or yet? 😏 ) Are you happy and satisfied with life?

None of these things will just happen, they all take planning and effort. Without effort and work the defaults are:

  • business flounder.
  • you will get weaker over time.
  • your weight will go up over time.
  • relationships break down.
  • wealth depreciates.
  • wellbeing deteriorates.

Naval Ravikant says it succintly and beautifully: “A fit body, a calm mind, a house full of love. These things cannot be bought — they must be earned.”

Put the work in because awesomeness lies on the other side of hard/challenging work. What are you doing in 2024 that will pay dividends in 10 years?
