Valeria’s educational journey began with a Bachelor's degree in General Biology from the University of Puerto Rico-Humacao. Her thirst for knowledge further propelled her to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Throughout her academic career, Valeria has honed her skills in advanced research techniques, gaining particular expertise in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) during her thesis work. This technique enables an in-depth examination of tissue samples, providing remarkable insights into cellular structures and functions, which is crucial for her ongoing research.
Currently, Valeria's research focuses on understanding the "Effects of Retinoic Acid and Macrophages in Axon Regeneration after Optic Nerve Injury." This project highlights her dedication to addressing significant challenges in neuroscience, especially in the realm of nerve injury and regeneration. Through meticulous research, Valeria aims to contribute valuable knowledge and potential therapeutic strategies to the field.

Valeria has accumulated diverse research experiences which further enrich her professional background. She began her journey as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Puerto Rico-Humacao, where she developed foundational research skills and a keen interest in biological sciences. Following this, Valeria gained additional experience as a summer student at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, broadening her exposure to clinical research environments.
Furthermore, Valeria served as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the prestigious University of Virginia, where she further refined her research capabilities.
