If you force RTO with no exceptions you don't truly care about diversity in your workforce- period. There are no two ways about this.

💸 folks who took your salary on a remote offer can't necessarily afford to commute 👪 folks who have kids to care for are unlikely to be able to give up the flexibility 🧓🏻 folks who have older relatives they help care for can't just relocate across the country 🌡️ chronically ill and disabled folks can both struggle with commuting and working in offices 💊 ADHDers often struggle to thrive in the open offices that oh-so-many companies love for "collaboration" (read: cost cutting) reasons 🌈 transgender employees are under attack in something like 50% of states right now so making them relocate to the state where your office is could literally be unsafe

Some leaders want to pretend that there's no way to be collaborative without being in the office. But plenty of companies do succeed in collaboration remotely (if you have offices in multiple states or countries, congratulations, you've already shown you believe it's possible!) - investing in that instead of paying huge leases on office buildings might be a place to start instead of insisting that bringing in-person watercooler talk back is the way to get things done.

Let's stop pretending and call this out for what it is.
