I arrived in the US over 10+ years ago as an international student from India to attend art school in the Midwest. My career journey has been marked by trial and error, leading me from the Midwest to the East Coast and eventually to Silicon Valley. I've come to realize that opportunities in remote areas are scarce, and finding diverse mentors, especially those who come from diverse backgrounds, is even rarer.

When Treasure Valley Community College invited me to Ontario, Oregon, to celebrate International Students Day and conduct a workshop for students on their career paths, I was thrilled!

I created an interactive workshop aimed at empowering students to utilize a ✨designer's toolkit ✨ —employing user empathy, brainstorming ideas, and prototyping solutions—to design their careers. The creativity displayed by the students during the workshop was truly inspiring!

Here are my reflections on the visit -  🗣️ Adapting Career Landscape: The career aspirations expressed by the students spanned a spectrum of issues close to their hearts, ranging from aspiring to become cybersecurity engineers to ambitions of becoming influencers. 💖 Learning from Failure: Sharing my experiences with failure proved to be as impactful for them as sharing my successes. 🐎 Life Outside the Screen: Exploring TVCC's programs in horse production (!) allowed me to visit barns and spend time with horses! This provided me with a refreshing perspective on education beyond the confines of a screen.

Big thanks to Chase Van Weerdhuizen for the invitation, the incredible opportunity, and his ongoing commitment to cultivating the international community at TVCC!
