William Piekos

Nonresident WSD-Handa Fellow at Pacific Forum

William Piekos is a Nonresident Fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global China Hub and a Ph.D. researcher.14 His research focuses on Chinese economic statecraft, particularly in developing countries and the Global South, including Beijing's use of economic coercion.1

Piekos earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania, with subfields in International Relations and Comparative Politics.14 His dissertation analyzed alignment decisions in Southeast Asia, U.S.-China relations, and East Asian security issues, specifically in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Cambodia after the Cold War.1 He also holds a B.A. in International Studies from Middlebury College and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.14
