Highlights
We recently launched our 🏗 HoneyBook Design & Product Principles🏗 , highlighting key aspects of how we build products. These principles, although may seem "fluff" initially, encompass crucial tradeoffs.
Having such a set of principles, is essential due to our rapid design and development pace. We aspire to leverage them in any product review, design critique or just over slack.
Simplicity for example is a principle that is "easy to agree on" but has meaningful implications. It's much harder to build powerful products when you want to maintain simplicity at almost any cost. It also often makes your research & design cycles longer. Building simpler products is often very complex :-) Simplicity incentives you to make the hard decision of going back to mature parts of your system, which you didn't plan to invest in, and iterate on them to make them more simple based on user feedback and engagement.
Honestly, we are far from being "The Best" in implementing these principles, that is why we invested the time to draft them and to share them with the company. Our goal for the next 12 months is to make significant improvement in how we follow them.
If your company has a set of guiding principles, I invite you to share them. For any question regarding these principles, feel free to comment below or DM me.
Shoutout to Ronit Kaufman and Anders Nicolaysen for driving this initiative!
