Zachary Markovits
Zachary Markovits is currently the Vice President and Local Practice Lead at Results for America, focusing on helping local governments use data and evidence to create more equitable change for residents.47 He joined Results for America in 2015 to help launch the What Works Cities initiative and now oversees or coordinates all of RFA's work with cities, counties, and regional programs.7
Prior to his current role, Markovits worked at The Pew Charitable Trusts, where he led the elections performance portfolio and the Voting Information Project.12 He also has experience working at the University of California's Survey Research Center and as a community organizer in Providence, Rhode Island.17
Markovits holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Brown University and a master's degree in public policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley.2 He also has a James Bell Racial Justice & Structural Well-being Certificate from the Haywood Burns Institute.7

Federal funds—such as the $350 billion available from the American Rescue Plan State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) and the $1.2 trillion available from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL)—are catalyzing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for state and local governments. Results for America is partnering with Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) North America to launch “Leveraging Evaluation and Evidence for Equitable Recovery” (LEVER), a new program to help state and local government leaders build their capacity to evaluate investments of federal recovery funds and deliver better results for residents.

Why It Matters: Federal recovery funds offer a unique opportunity for state and local governments to increase economic mobility and advance racial equity. State and local leaders need to rigorously assess their investments of these federal funds to ensure taxpayer dollars are directed toward what works.
