Highlights
I have recently developed multifocal Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVCs) on my ECG. Many physicians would dismiss PVCs as benign and don’t require treatment. My clinical team told me that in their decades of experience reading ECGs, multifocal PVCs were sometimes precursors to ventricular runs that could lead to the potentially lethal Ventricular Tachycardia.
I surfed the web for reliable information about the occurrence of multifocal PVCs in young (20-40) healthy adults. To my surprise, not much was available beyond the general information about PVC.
Granted, I probably monitor my heart more than the average citizen of the world, given what I do. Nonetheless, I find a big gap between what humanity knows today, and what humanity should know about our bodies not as patients, but as healthy individuals before we even become patients. In my case, I noticed a correlation between increased levels of mental stress, lack of sleep, Caffeine intake and the onset of those episodes. Those episodes disappear after a period of rest and stress relief exercises. I’m learning to adjust my lifestyle accordingly to minimize future risk.
