💥 Most CEOs are bad at time management. Tell me I'm wrong! 💥
I recently audited one of my coaching client's calendars alongside him. He clearly stated that his top priority as CEO was finding a new primary growth channel.
But less than 15% of his time in the past month went towards growth and sales.
This happens all the time.
A CEO tells me one thing. Their calendar tells me the opposite.
Here's the fix. It looks like this:
1️⃣ Get clear on your top priorities for the quarter - business, personal, everything.
2️⃣ Look at the past four weeks of your calendar and categorize your time in buckets. Start with the priorities you set, then add buckets for other major areas. Where did the time go? How much of it was intentionally focused on your highest priorities?
3️⃣ Adjust! Start by modifying or eliminating recurring commitments. Add blocks for focus work on key areas, or personal priorities like family time or workouts. Keep pushing until at least 60% of your week is devoted to the things YOU KNOW matter most.
4️⃣ Set a future checkpoint in a month, to assess the change and make further modifications. Reflect on your progress against the priorities you set, and your personal feeling of overwhelm.
If you've done it right, you'll know and feel good about where your time is going, you'll make steadier progress on what matters, and you'll have an increased sense of mastery over how your work gets done.
How well does your calendar align to your stated priorities?
