Google Chrome Doesn't Matter...

It is only circa 50% of the UK browser market, whilst open web inventory/GDN only makes up 10% of Google's revenues.

I really think the cat is out of the bag.

Serious, high quality publishers have realised that their content is theirs, their highly valuable audience is a by-product of that content and their relationship with that audience can be monetized in a privacy preserving way or through value exchange and consent.

I really hope publishers decide that the race to the bottom days of £2 CPM's are over and continue on the path of authenticated relationships with real people and advertisers realise the inherent value in those environments.

Whilst I know that advertisers will continue on their 1PD strategies for insight, targeting and collaboration.

1PD Measurement/CAPI's, Attention Optimization, LLM Turbocharged Contextual, CTV Measurement chops - all have accelerated out of this industry push, and none of them have come from Google!

Do you really want to go back to buying 3rd party cookie bombs of people who have a "high affinity" for football/fashion/food (Delete as appropriate, but I bet we were all in all three...)

Your addressable strategy should already be fundamentally different to how it was 18 months ago and it shouldn't be reverting tonight, based on Google deciding that it wasn't worth the hassle.

Flying solo for the next 24 hours or so in Dublin for Google Marketing Live.

Going to wade my way through the oncoming tidal wave of AI product 'stuff' to try and get my hands on some intel around privacy, any (much needed) improvements to Enhanced Conversions and Google's "new" approach to MMM.

Any old ad tech/agency colleagues around and fancy a coffee/water/wine/Guinness along with a laugh and a moan about how much of a hash Google are making of cookies - send me a message!
