Highlights
Don’t think of any sales call as a “waste of time.”
I’ve seen way too many instances of surface-level DQ turning into revenue.
The “junior” level employee who’s been at the company forever and has the ear of the CEO.
The “not a fit” buyer who’s amazingly willing to make referrals to her network.
The “tiny” company that’s actually got a huge team overseas they need to support.
Professional sellers – the ones at the top of the leaderboard – give every call their all. They make their own luck by showing up, creating a great buyer experience, and relentlessly finding silver linings.

I thought the first call went great.
Classic happy ears. Classic sales rep.*
The AI summary I got after the call wasn’t so optimistic. It rightly pointed out that:
They were lukewarm on 3 out of 4 use cases presented. Of course, I was focusing on the one that went best.
They were noncommittal on budget and on timeline. Not unusual for an early stage call, but they were particularly evasive.
They mentioned a handful of stakeholders who would need to be involved. The AI identified those stakeholders as very senior and very cross-functional. Not a deal breaker, but likely to slow things down.
This kind of AI insight is super useful for qualification and prioritization.
I’m excited to discuss this in depth next week at The AI Summit by Hard Skill Exchange.

*Yes, I’m referring to myself as a sales rep! Been carrying a bag for the last couple quarters.
