"As I child, I used to participate in our church’s fundraisers."

"I loved looking at the simple red “thermometer” constructed out of paper that showed how well we were doing against our goal."

"It always inspired me and others to push harder and fill the thermometer with red all the way to the top."

"Tracking the progress you and your teammates are making toward your goals not only motivates you to do your best, but also alerts you when you’ve stalled and need to course- correct."

"It’s also critical that you report your progress regularly to your bosses, the board, donors, investors, or constituents."

"Keep all decision makers informed of the positive leaps you’ve made to reach your goal as well as any barriers you’ve hit."

I Don’t Need AI for Brain Surgery; I Need it to Communicate with My Doctors.

My husband is battling severe illnesses and their side effects, leading us through numerous ER visits, treatments, and two hospitalizations.

This visual is a Dall E illustrative representation of a male patient with similar symptoms to create a point.

Thankfully, EPIC and MyChart allow doctors at different medical specialties to view his history quickly, but this week, he was in the hospital for something that might’ve been avoided.

[Update: He returned home last night after a week of hospitalization.]

The Issue:

A specialist we consulted recommended a specific medication.

We sent a MyChart note to his primary doctors, called repeatedly, and waited ten days.

It turns out they were on vacation, but no one told us.

My husband ended up in the ER and in patient care.

If our doctor or those on call had responded, this crisis could’ve been prevented.

⭐ AI should alert doctors to urgent patient notes, not let them sit in a backlog.

⭐ My appeal to AI professionals is to solve this communication problem.

Good doctors and medical professionals are overloaded.

Humans can only do so much to address the onslaught of chronic and autoimmune conditions.

➡ Prevent severely ill patients from deteriorating due to delayed responses--saving money and stress.
