Luis Larrondo

Director at Millennium Institute for Integrative Biology (iBio)

Dr. Luis Larrondo, originally from Santiago, Chile, holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He further pursued his academic journey with postdoctoral research at Dartmouth Medical School in the United States, under the sponsorship of the PEW foundation, delving into fungal functional genomics and circadian regulation. Returning to Chile in 2009, Dr. Larrondo assumed the role of an associate professor at his alma mater and also serves as the director of the Millennium Nucleus for Fungal Integrative and Synthetic Biology. His research primarily focuses on unraveling the molecular intricacies governing biological oscillators within various fungal systems, exploring the profound implications of circadian clocks on physiology and interactions in host-pathogen relationships. Leveraging cutting-edge techniques like optogenetics and synthetic biology, his laboratory is dedicated to crafting innovative oscillatory circuits capable of initiating and sustaining circadian rhythms.
