Dear friends and colleagues,

I just found out today I didn’t get a job I wanted… and another job I might have needed. I’m feeling quite tired from this long search, but I need to keep going.

I am Mark Krawczyk, a highly skilled actor, director, and educator with extensive experience in the performing arts. Over the past 17-18 months of searching for full-time work, I have:

Co-directed and designed projections for a production

Acted in a critically acclaimed production in the DC/MD area

Devised, wrote, and performed a one-man show as part of an artist’s residency

Directed and designed projections for a large-scale musical at a local theatre

Acted in and provided feedback for a nursing training program at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

Led a five-day devised theatre workshop in Maryland

Despite these accomplishments, I am in a period of rebuilding due to significant life changes and am open to work anywhere.

My career highlights include leading education departments, developing curricula, and overseeing the logistics and daily programming of a conservatory. I have taught at the middle school, high school, and college/university/conservatory levels, and have worked with the education programs of several high-profile, award-winning theatres. I have managed multiple large performance spaces and trained and coached actors extensively. My experience spans stage, film, and TV, guiding both large and small-scale productions to fruition, both on-site and on tours.

Additionally, I have had the privilege of working with Tony, Helen Hayes, Emmy, and Edinburgh Fringe First Award-winning companies and productions. As an actor, I understand what it means to be a professional in this field. I am also a dual citizen of the USA and the EU, which allows me to work in both regions without restrictions.

I am eager to bring my skills and passion to a full-time position. If anyone knows of specific job openings, whether in the theatre/performing arts or in roles that can benefit from a dedicated individual with many transferable skills, please let me know. I am seeking concrete leads, not general ideas.

Thank you for your help and support. Also, please feel free to share this with your Facebook or LinkedIn feeds.

Am I the only one reading this article and thinking it's not actually saying a whole lot? There's lots of holes in its editorial-like reporting. The audience for radio in and of itself has been reduced and splintered with the advent of new independent media channels, programs, and websites. So overall stating that an audience has reduced, or become splintered, is a bit par for the course. To what percentage and what full end I'm not entirely sure, but the ability to amass radio audiences has suffered in the face of "new digital media".

Also, every time Uri Berliner offers a "fact" I have questions about what's not there. For example, when he mentions the dearth of Republicans at NPR there isn't much in terms of follow-up as to the full reasons why. Is that because of the general atmosphere at NPR, political/personal discrimination, or did these potential "conservative hires" field offers from rival networks, programs, or become independent voices in the expanding and exploding field of YouTubers, etc? Is it quite simply far more lucrative to become an overt voice in conservative media than it is to work for NPR? There isn't much in the way of actual "reporting" when it comes to "facts" like that throughout this piece.
