Matt Holden

CEO of Whywhywhy. Formerly Google, Dropbox, YCombinator.

Matt Holden is the Founder and CEO of Whywhywhy, a data visualization and sharing app that he co-founded in early 2021 alongside David Kjelkerud. The company aimed to enhance existing tools by integrating data visualization directly into productivity platforms like Notion and Slack, allowing users to share and manipulate data easily. Unfortunately, Whywhywhy ceased operations in December 2022 after struggling to gain traction in the market.12

Before founding Whywhywhy, Holden held significant positions at major tech companies, including serving as the Product Management Director for Collaboration at Dropbox and working on product strategy for Google Search, Ads, and Maps. He is also noted for being a founder of a startup that was part of Y Combinator's 2011 cohort, which was later acquired.56

In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, Holden has a presence on LinkedIn where he shares insights about his professional journey and personal milestones.34

There's a related thing here we might call "blather coding"

When I'm in the planning phase for a new feature or project, I'll grab a room and just blather long unstructured braindumps using wispr flow (much higher bitrate of context transfer than typing). Don't stop (ums, pauses, typos, doesn't matter), just get as much relevant context out as you can

My blathering turns into structured plans, specs, readmes, issues (all markdown), which then drive execution with claude code or codex (back at my desk)

But it only works because I'm building simple workflows to turn blather into artifacts of various types

Anyone else blather coding these days?

New blog post: Onboarding for coding agents

I used to write 100s of lines in files like CLAUDE .md

Recently, I shrunk it to just 2 small sections: Onboarding & Quality Gates

The idea:

  • Context → READMEs
  • Constraints → Environment
  • Start AI sessions with "onboarding"
