🛑 Value is vital in any business, but defining and leveraging it can be challenging. Mastering this skill is crucial for closing bigger deals and advancing in decision-making.

In my experience, there are three key types of Value: 🛠 Technical Value: Often seen as the easiest to explain and solve, making it appealing. However, it's also the easiest for competitors to mimic, and because it is easier, it often shifts our focus from the actual value.

💰 Business Value: The key to unlocking bigger deals and gaining decision-makers attention. Understanding the business value often falls into these categories:

   •   Increase productivity: Helping the customer's team achieve more with less time and fewer resources.    •   Enable the business: Driving growth by cutting costs, boosting revenue, or enhancing profitability.    •   Secure the business: Protecting the company and brand from fraud and cyber threats.

Recognizing and articulating the business value can set you apart and drive success. Serious challenges may arise if you can't showcase business value in these areas (high churn rate, not significant enough deals, lower revenue)

😎 Personal Value: What motivates the buyer? What fears can your service eliminate? What goals can it help them achieve?

To understand this, develop trust and build relationships. Look at them as people, build rapport, and ask intelligent questions to uncover their personal pains. You can address these personal values smartly during POV results, onboarding retrospectives, EBRs/QBRs, and renewal discussions.

Business values and personal values are the keys to closing more significant deals and becoming profitable over time. Having just one of them per customer or opportunity is great; having both is superb.

🐞 In the past five years, when I've asked CS/sales/marketing leaders, founders, and CEOs about their product's Value, I often received answers focused solely on technical Value.

What prevents many of us from searching for and defining the business value? 📛 The fear of understanding we don't provide any business value. 📛 Not knowing how to identify the business values. 📛 Thinking and confusing it will be solved as part of the Go-To-Market process.

Identifying your product's business values is challenging and time-consuming, but it is the most fundamental step in your company's development. The earliest you define it, the earliest you will gain access to decision-makers and be able to close more significant deals.

🙏 I want to thank Ibby Syed, the founder of Cotera. He reached out to me a few weeks ago, and we talked about customer success, customer-led growth (CLG), and selling business value.

The conversation was fascinating, and Ibby took the time to write a blog post about it. I wish I could have read it 12 years ago before learning the hard way.

📖 You can read the post here: https://lnkd.in/g-wEwBBK

💡 By the way, if you work in a commerce, restaurant, or coffee shop chain, Cotera's product is exciting and can increase productivity. However, its primary value is growing revenue by providing customers' sentiment insights in a way I have never seen before.
