Russ Straate is a seasoned professional with a successful track record in business development, entrepreneurship, and technology commercialization. Currently serving as the Director of the Venture Center within the University of Minnesota's Technology Commercialization group, Russ leads a team focused on establishing and launching new companies based on a wide array of technologies stemming from the university's research program. Prior to his current role, he held the position of Vice President of Business Development at a medical device startup.

Russ's extensive career includes co-founding companies in the medical technology and high-tech sectors, as well as working as an intrapreneur for Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 enterprises. With senior management roles at prominent organizations like IMI, plc, Honeywell Automation and Control, and Schneider Electric (Square D Company), Russ has consistently driven new business growth initiatives. Notably, at Honeywell, he led high-growth operational units and served as the Director of Business Development, playing a pivotal role within the $1.2 billion Environmental Controls Business under the leadership of the General Manager.

Educationally, Russ Straate holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and has pursued post-graduate studies in marketing and finance. His professional achievements also include co-founding two startup ventures, overseeing numerous product development endeavors within established corporations, securing five inventor patents, and obtaining certification as a Six Sigma Green Belt.
