27 years ago today, my father, who was dying of cancer, sent me this quote about Attitude.
I re-read it every morning while brushing my teeth.
“...I’m convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.”
I thought I’d share it with you in Dad’s memory.
My father was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 41 when I was a boy. He fought it with the help of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for 17 years. This meant he was there for me during the crucial growth years.
I learned a lot about living from Dad’s dying. For that I am thankful.
While I would never have wished cancer on my father, learning from him how to deal with such adversity was one of his greatest gifts to me.
Dad’s correlation to this quotation was “It is all mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter!”
Of course, this paragraph on Attitude works well when you are dealing with someone who ‘sharpens their elbows on the way into the office.’ We have all had encounters with such people despite our ‘no jerks’ policies.
More importantly and satisfyingly, I’ve found re-reading this paragraph each morning amplifies my positivity and makes my day more fulfilling.
I hope it has the same effect for you today.
