People as people first. People as job titles second.

^It quickly became my rallying call as I found my footing in thinking through of what a "career" should mean. Today, more than ever, that rallying call that got me into the world of People Operations couldn't be more true when reflecting on the state of the field.

It seems that we're in the midst of a ferocious swing of the pendulum. Where the ways of work continue to be reimagined and challenged. Where a stronger haze in world of tech has resulted in more #layoff news features than many of our stomachs can take. And where the newly self-proclaimed "Chief Twit" of Twitter juggles decades of work and accomplishments of so many with an unwelcoming and unsettling humor.

This picture is startling. A year ago, I reflected on here of the abundance of opportunities in the world of Talent that were being presented in truthfully every. direction. imaginable.

Also on this day last year, I stepped foot into my own new opportunity and "my dream job on paper" with Angi. For context, it's what I called it when my parents asked what on earth a manager of culture + engagement is. In a short amount of time, I am proud of the work that has been accomplished thus far (screenshots from a handful of some favorite proposals below) and even more so for those that I get to work alongside with. I'm talking about people who dive into the work without fear each and every day and have challenged me to grow into my craft. There are so many here. We as an organization too have our challenges & obstacles. Yet from the successes I have seen when taken head-on, it would be foolish to doubt the ability in how we will overcome them.

Collectively, the direction our world saw a year ago at this time was indeed a stark difference. Today, I put belief and solace in an understanding of how a wave too will retreat in order to gather its strength.

Here's to the work ahead.

Today I start my second week with Angi. Being on the other side of an onboarding experience has been quite the ride! In an ever-shifting world of talent, so many of you out there have either recently made a move, taken on new responsibilities, or are poking at an innate curiosity. Here are some top takeaways (brain drain) from my first week –

  1. "Be an Owner" – and be it early on. It's one of our values here at Angi and it has resonated a lot as I begin this chapter. Each day welcomes an opportunity to open yourself to learning opportunities. Everyone and at every stage. It also provides opportunity to flex where you know best (yes, you!). Companies left and right are going public (honestly...holy cow!), individuals are climbing the ranks in the areas their hearts feel called to, and curiosity/hunger/drive is abundant almost everywhere as we have rediscovered somewhat of our footing again in this world. You have a choice to sit by and watch those journeys continue to unfold in front of you or be an active part of it. Will you fail at times? Likely yes. Should that though be reason to not pursue?

  2. Support is there and connection is craved. The ripple effect of your choices and work output is far more grand than you will likely ever know. Maybe it's a 3 month project that gets passed off for its next iteration to another department. Or maybe it was as simple as exchanging a smile with a stranger walking the other direction before work (coffee in hand and also owning that sidewalk as a shared runway – I see you!). As you make your choices or question a feeling of uncertainty, someone (knowingly or not) is standing by. I assure you of this truth. And with that, never shy away from reminding yourself in how we can do hard things – these last almost two years have been a testament of that collective strength. However, there is no shortage of an emphasis on "we" as it strengthens the truest form of innovation.

To my Angi teammates, many of you that I still anxiously await to meet, please know – I have your back every step of the way. Let's build and let's do it together! 👊

P.S. Did I mention we're hiring? Enjoy this journey with me (https://lnkd.in/ekRiaXXP)!
