Imagine More, a women's economic empowerment program established by JDC assists women in developing their own businesses, encouraging food security, and fostering independence. One of our key focus areas is beekeeping, where we support women in learning how to produce honey, and build sustainable livelihoods.

In Romakoka, South Africa, one of our pioneering beekeeping sites, our women beekeepers faced an unexpected challenge. They discovered their hives mysteriously destroyed, with bees nowhere to be found. These women, who have grown into confident beekeepers, refused to give up. Taking ownership of their hives and livelihoods, they sprang into action. They independently approached the police and sought help from traditional leaders to find those responsible for the vandalism. Despite their efforts, no one could solve the mystery. The breakthrough came from an unexpected source – giraffes! It turns out these gentle giants had accidentally trampled the hives, unaware of their presence.   Now that we've identified the culprits, we're installing protective fences around the hives. But the real story here is the remarkable confidence and responsibility demonstrated by the women beekeepers. Their proactive approach in the face of adversity showcases true empowerment in action.   This experience has not only solved a problem but also reinforced the success of our program in building skills, confidence, and leadership among these incredible women. #WomenEmpowerment #Beekeeping #CommunityDevelopment" Rachel ShaulAvital Sandler-LoeffLior RefaelLeora WineEshel Lev OrGalit Cohen
